I am a new blogger so I felt it was best to talk about what is current. I am a huge Hip Hop fan from La Ghostface and ODB (All of Wu-Tang..oh and don't forget RZA and da Chef).... to Black Moon down to Put it on Big L, Jay-Z, B.I.G, Nas, Black Thought (The Roots), Revenge of the Nerds Lupe, etc. and now DMV's own Wale!. Now I am not gonna lie I thought his new track with Lady Ga-Ga was alright and I don't like a new upcoming artist (who has been out for a while) to be just be aight.
Now a friend of mines (MoRain aka the Barber) said that Wale! was the next Jay-Z which is a strech but def. not far. His flow is diff. and requires at least 10 to 15 playbacks to understand his message which automatically gives his metaphors depth that most can't understand. Which once again gives him praise but I am sorry I cant say I vibe the first release (Sorry DMV). It may be the fact that I just want more.
If we compare Jay-Z and Wale! I def. know that Wales!'s new song with Lady Ga-Ga doesn't compare to Jay-Z's first song "Dead Presidents" (on Reasonable Doubt..his first track was "In my Lifetime" but what do we really remeber at 7..lol).
Now I understand you want to sell to mainstream America but my only question is how will Wale! stack up to Jay-Z first four singles. Can we compare "Dead Presidents", "Ain't No Nigga", "Can't Knock the Hustle" and "Feelin' It" at this point and time?..IDK
Now his Mixtapes are not a disappointment (They are mixtape classics...I am talking bout Revenge of the Nerds Lupe before the Food & Liquor) and most of the tracks should have been on the radio years ago. I mean "Paint a Picture", "Hate Is the New Love", '100 Miles & Runnin" and recently "The Mixtape About Nothing". and hopefully 'Back to the Feature" are all mixtapes that need to be heard (Yeah that was a plug..lol)
Basically what I am saying is Wale is the future no offense to Charles Hamilton or Asher Roth and the others on da XXL cover cuz you all crank but longevity is the overall question. what is your message after the first single.
Pretty much Wale! stay DMV aight. And give us the truth on the female perspective "Even if its Wrong" or inform us of the depth in a shoe i.e. Nike Boots i.e. one people one mental--
"black on black Nikes
that represent the lifeless lives
and it reflects the plight of those fighting so
if we ain't right and always at the throats
of one another at least we got our Goadome Nikes a
metaphor, for the insecure
if you ain't wearing no color, can't nobody say nothing
one can never be judged when he dress like his brothers
melancholy we are though we all learn to love it
pessimistic we are
carry odds like luggage
and thru all our troubles
we still walk around walk around"
So Basically keep it Flyer then the rest of them and make sure it doesn't get too commercial. Don't forget the fans from day one and Wale! may be the next Jay-Z who knows "Rhyme of the Century" is up there...WALE!!!!!!!!
(Please leave comments or discuss the topic in more detail below)(Edited by Double R "In my Lifetime" was the first track you were right thank you)

Mos def......Wale Hasnt gotten there yet but with more Exposure and more of us puttin him out there......he can stretch to be the DMV's HOVA......
ok!...stan good blog post but there are some things u overlooked...fist is that jay-z's first single was not dead presidents, it was "In My Lifetime" in 1995...as a Jay fan u should know that...Secondly, of course you cant compare wale's first album sales to jay because we are living in the internet era now...in 95 cd's and tapes was the only way for music...so if wale were to even sell 200k that would be a pretty good start for him...Wale will be successful, i mean look how far along he has come in 5 years through myspace and mixtapes...im not saying he is or even will be jay, but there shouldnt be a comparison right now until he garners some more success...and Jay has said on many occassions that Wale has what it takes
Well Double R your right "In my lifetime" was his first song and it was in 1995 and I was only 7 so me remembering it would be slim..lol but none the less I am not comparing Jay-Z to Wale in the sense of career. I am talking about his first single on his debut album and making sure that he doesn't lose site that the real hip hop fans want love too and don't sell out to Mainstream bubble gum b.s. America but Double R true point...oh and i didn't compare album sales...quality always outweighs quantity when it deals with art...dwell son..lol
ok fair enough...we also have to take into account that times have changed...shit was different then and rappers were talkin about different shit...Jay-z's first single couldnt have been that great if people cant even remember it...CHILLIN, from what i know, is being accepted as a hot song...plus its just a song that he says is "kicking down the door"...im just saying lets wait a 10 years and see the body of work wale does before we say he is the next jay or even that he wont be Jay
I mean "In my Lifetime" was a two side tape with Jay-Z on one side and Big Jaz (Ether Diss..Jaz named mentioned)which was kind of a mixtape....and his first album was Reasonable Doubt which did real well and I mean u don't need 10 years to have a great c.d. remember B.I.G only had two real albums and his first single "Juicy" is one of the greatest Hip-Hop songs of all time...I mean two timeless cds seperated by 3 years..lets be real
Im not saying Wale! isn't Jay-Z or B.I.G what I am saying is that he has the tools just don't head in the wrong direction with Mainstream America..Don't fall into Generic Republican owned Hip-Hop but all in all your right son
